I still don´t know which I prefer, rock or vintage... Maybe I could do a non- rockabilly combo.

... pink wig

90s velvet dress: friend´s mother´s old
shoes: weekday vintage

Oops! What a contrast...
Today were penkkarit and I naturally had to wear my new lovely pink polka wig. Our dressing theme was millionaires, but I didn´t bother to obey the code... I wanted to wear my wig, so I guess I was Lady Gaga or another outre main stream diva - they do have money, so it suited tolerably.
I thought I couldn´t wear the wig with glasses, but it looks allright.

I like the films Lost in Translation and Closer, and they both have a scene with the female lead character wearing a pink wig. I saw L in T about six months ago and I´ve wanted a pink polka every since. Last week I finally had time to order one via internet. I know it´s not the same colour exactly, but the more I wear it, the more I fall in love with its neon tint.

... ballads for February

I don´t know why, but English months don´t come naturally to my mind when I need them. I was going to write ballads for helmikuu! But think about it: February, February. February? What is February? It doesn´t mean anything. It doesn´t tell anything about the month. It is just a word, and when you repeat it, it loses its meaning. But helmikuu, it tells you everything you need to know about February. It tastes like February. Which February, I´ll say it again, does not.
Wonder if anyone could follow me in the previous paragraph - it had surprisingly little to do with music.
Apropos music... It´ll be cheerful to listen to these, I promise :D
I know it´s the same song but I like the quality of the music better in the first and the video in the second, so I put both. I don´t know what´s the thing with the video but it is somehow very compelling - I guess you could call it nostalgic.
Aargh, I would so want to put here Then I run - but I can´t, because the video in Youtube is not good. Well, maybe it´s enough if I just say you need to listen to it?

Det räcker med en gnista ett bloss.
Dom skulle inte hellre vilja vara som oss,
vara glada över det som inte räcker.
Dom skulle bara... någonting.

... Le Voyage dans la Lune

Things to do in February: gain a little civilization. It´s not that hard.
If there´s an effective way to sophisticate oneself within 15 minutes, it is watching silent film classics such as Un Chien Andalou and Le Voyage dans la Lune. They´re filled with examples about the ideas that have evolved to shape the later film industry. Un Chien Andalou is of course the greatest achievement of absurd cinema, not to mention an endless source of horror effects inspiration. Le Voyage dans la Lune in turn is first movie ever to take man out of the ground towards the stars. They´re both so remarkable I believe everyone who has ever seen a movie should also see them.

I really admire the makers of Le Voyage dans la Lune. Imagine the beginning of the 1900s - motion picture has barely come into being, and the unlimited possibilities of cinema are yet to be discovered. Still the makers - ambitious and innovative - already have the courage to test the limits of the art; the courage to create something that´s never been thought, let alone seen before: a science fiction film. There is no denying that, clumsy as it maybe, Le Voyage dans la Lune still affects the western way of making sci-fi movies - and not only them, but other adventurous pictures as well.
It is rather interesting that electronica duo Air has just released their new album containing a new soundtrack for the film. I was surprised how well it actually suits the ambiance of Le Voyage dans la Lune - it is appropriately naive and primitive, but  intriguing. It is of course very mikeoldfieldish, too, but somehow it also has an element of originality.
