... ballads for November

Yeah yeah, 26 days to my birthday! I´m definitely not looking forward to be 19: It´s so terribly old! I still feel like I was 15 years old inside my head. Maybe I am...
Anyway, here´s some music that I´ve been listening to lately. I realised some time ago that I´ve slightly getting into listening more and more soft electronica like Röyksopp and Blue Foundation. I´ve also had a pleasure of familiarising myself with some ambientish composers like Olafur Arnalds, Kangding Ray and Nils Frahm during our contemporary lessons.
This is again quite a mixture. My brother´s new love is Red Hot Chili Peppers, and we´re actually listening to Blood Sugar Sex Magik at the moment, so I couldn´t help adding some RHCP on the list. It is btw perfect music to dance your head off to.
So it is half grey, half crazy for November.

... acid colours

Hello again, it´s been a long long time. I´ve been dancing in Munich with no internet in my aparment and therefore it has been impossible for me to post anything during these six weeks. I´m now home for holidays, and when I return, I should have internet... However, it seems there is a problem with the modem, so I´m uncertain whether you will hear from me in a week when I return or not - it might take a week to fix the error, and then, hopefully, I´m finally really, really back.
Before the inevitable pause I wanted to post these pics, which are actually taken last time that I was here. They are old, yes, but I rather like them so I want to share them anyway. I made some simple photoshopping to turn everyday outfit posts into something little bit more unusual. Hope you like them :)

I was also planning to put the unedited pics here. When, when? Later, later...

... "ballads" for September

I´ve been bitten by a nostalgic bug. Lately I´ve been listening to Mew like crazy (I dance to And the glass handed kites every second day), but when I am not humming The Seething Rain Weeps For You I dig up my 90s CDs and return to the old, glittery times of Destiny´s Child, Madonna and Britney...
This is the soundtrack of my childhood.

... serpentine patterns

I sewed the uniform out of two skirts (the brown fabrick remained when I shortened one skirt I showed you before, in April of this year) and sleeves of a denim t-shirt. I like the unconventional combination of unusual colours  and the composition of the fabrics, as one normally would put the brown part between two burgundies, not above them both. I´m so proud of this dress, my own design! I´m going to wear it as much as possible this Autumn.

... the skeleton earrings

I found these earrings in a flea market for one euro. They go with pretty much everything.
I had to change pins to clips at Glitter accessories shop and after that I´ve worn them everywhere! I like it how they seem perfectly normal white drop earrings from distance, but when you get closer - yikes, the horrendous truth is revealed!
They are part of a DIY outfit I´ll show you later... During the previous period of silence I received some good pieces of advice corserning my habits of updating this blog and one of them  is this: little less at a time, little more often. I´m going to try to obey this (hopefully) wise tip.

I hope the sunflowers will find time to blossom before the nights turn too cold and dark!

... Trondheim

So, here are some photos of my two-day trip to Trondheim of Middle-Norway. I flied from Helsinki to Oslo on Friday the 17th of August, and then took a bus to Trondheim to see Mew in P-Stereo music festival on 18th of August . The journey took 7 hours and 30 minutes, as the roads were partly narrow and serpentive and there were lots of bus stops. These first three photos I took during one of the 10-minute pauses of the route.

When I arrived to Trondheim I left my luggage to my hotel and then went for a little walk in the centre. I looked for the festival area and soon I found it next to Elgeseter bru, the bridge that reaches over the river.

I think I ought to have buyed a souvenir from here XD

It was the first day of the festival (Mew would perform on the second day, Saturday), and I went to the other side of the river and listened to the headliner for Friday, First Aid Kit, there. The audibility was good because of the water.
Elgeseter bru from the other side of the river.

I wasn´t the only one to enjoy the music from outside the festival area.
Next morning, before the festival area opened, I walked about in Trondheim. I fell in love with the colourful wooden houses! And it was simply wonderful how peaceful and spacious the city was, even the downtown... If I didn´t want to dance but simply write and draw, I would like to live in Trondheim. There was something, almost like a spell, that caught me there - and didn´t quite let me go, even now.

I made it out of faded shamrock flowers for someone to wonder why it was made.

From old town.
The soundtrack for my wandering: of course

... unexpected events

Sorry for the long period of silence, but I have lived through curious times. So much has happened during these weeks!
I got a place to study contemporary dance first at Karjaa of Finland, and I thought my plans for next year were settled. However, then I heard from one girl at a contemporary dance course that there is still an audition for those who would like to study in Iwanson, International school of contemporary dance in Munich. That was about 10th of August. Suddenly I decided to try Iwanson as well (I had nothing to lose, except the flight tickets money), and managed to enroll myself in the last, informal audition for this year. I had only one problem: the audition would be in Munich on 20th and 21th of August, and I had a ticket for P-Stereo music festival in Trondheim for 18th of August. How to make it from Middle-Norway to Munich in a day? I knew I wouldn´t miss the festival for anything - I mean, it would be my first time to see Mew!
Somehow I managed to book the flights from Helsinki to Oslo, the bus from Oslo to Trondheim (the trip was nice, even though it took 8 hours), and the Sunday flight from Trondheim to Munich, and then a flight from Munich  back home. I even managed to be at the airports on time, find the gates, and the hotel, too. And I got the study place at Iwanson! So, I´m moving to Munich in three weeks now. I´ve already found an apartment in Sendling... I still cannot believe I´m going to live there possibly at least three years! I cannot believe I got the study place either - I got some kind of salmonella poisoning in Trondheim and was too sick to be there on 21th of August, but they told me anyhow I could start studying there. I know it will be so much better than Karjaa would have been!
There is more: When I was in Trondheim to see Mew (it was freaking amazing) and went to the airport the morning after the Show, I met them! Jonas and Silas were there at the same wing as me sitting at a cafe, Bo was somewhere else. When I first noticed them my heart started beating like crazy and I felt so nervous I could hardly breathe. I however made myself go to their table - Jonas was reading some novel, and when he saw me he looked very friendly and not at all annoyed (as could be a person who is frequently disturbed by over-enthusiastic fans), so I found the courage to say:
Sorry to disturb you, but could I please have your autograph? I was yesterday at your gig.
I noticed immediately my word order sucked, but I guess the message was succesfully received, as Jonas nodded, smiled and took my pen and pitiful peace of paper I had found in my bag and started writing.

I wonder how you can turn "Bo Madsen" into that frill on the left... The Rest should be clear.
The meeting was shortly over (and I felt shivers of fright when I noticed I had called Bo Bo instead of mr. Madsen), but I felt knocked out by this truly unlikely and definitely unthought-of meeting. I have dreamed about seeing and talking to Jonas and the rest of the band for as long as I have listened to them (two years), but never in my life I would have guessed it would actually happen, let alone this quickly! I mean, how many of the fans of Mew can actually say they have talked to them? In the plane when they passed me at the aisle, Jonas asked me about if I was flying via Copenhagen (as he had previously asked me if I was from Helsinki), which is of course a trivial question, but somehow I felt very happy about it, because it indicated he had been listening and he was genuinely interested me as a fan of his band.
I keep thinking about all this and I still have nothing more to say than WHAT THE FUDGE? My life is very peculiar at the moment.
I only hope I would have asked them to come to Helsinki soon, except I won´t be there myself :S At least I said:
You are my number one band in the world.
(Again, where are the words when I need them most? This was so clumsy).
(And why didn´t I ask for a photograph with them and me? I suppose you don´t believe me now, sad...).
I will put some pics of Trondheim later.
Meanwhile, watch this. Wish I had been there, too!

...ballads for August

So, the Finnish summer is about to fade away. The days of peaceful moments in the sun, myriads of dandelions and mosquitoes, they´ll soon be over. So short. So short is the time of warmth and light. Nevertheless I´m anticipating a reckless Indian summer. I´m not ready to let go just yet. In my world there will be no ice-cold wind or balding trees for a long long time.

(I don´t know why I´ve started to use so poetical language in these updates. It´s rather annoying, in fact, but I cannot change it. Maybe it´ll change by itself as the weekday passes over the holiday.)

These are the songs I feel like listening to at the moment.

Hmm... It seems I´m eventually going to link the whole Melody A.M. album to this blog. Nowadays I listen to it almost weekly, whenever I´m doing something necessary but not nice, like filling the washing machine. It makes even the most humdrum job magical.

... Golden shades

In the middle of the hottest summer, I feel all yellow, orange and red. 30 degrees in the sun, burning the ground, vividness beyond words. No, nothing left for me to do, but stay.
How poetic.

I have to admit I´ve had enough of the 50s vintage - at least temporarily. I have four 50s dresses which I haven´t worn for over three months. However, this jumpsuit I like, a lot. It´s easy and relaxed, but beautfiul. And it suits the restiveness of this high summer.
I found it in a charity shop for four euros.

How perfectly can a song fit to this ambiance? This perfectly.
